Our son Oscar was born in January 2009. He had a long and difficult labour and was delivered by emergency C section. All seemed well at the beginning. One hour after birth Oscar stopped breathing, we don’t know why or how long for, Oscar then spent the next 6 weeks in the Special Care Baby Units at Jessops Hospital and Rotherham General. Where for the first few days he was unable to breath for himself and was kept alive by a ventilator and had numerous tests.
We were told Oscar would be severely disabled, be deaf, blind and unaware of the outside world due to his lack of oxygen when he stopped breathing.
Oscar is proving the doctors wrong he can hear and see and is certainly aware of the world around him and is a happy little boy.
Throughout all his life Oscar has been unable to drink from a bottle and has been fed by a nasogastric tube which goes up his nose down his throat and into his stomach. These tubes need changing on a regular basis which is distressing for Oscar and us his parents. He can now eat some solid foods but is still unable to drink for himself. The doctors say the only option is for a tube to be surgically fitted directly into his stomach. We have located a clinic in Graz, Austria which specialises in weaning children off the tubes. The NHS won’t pay for this so we have to pay ourselves. For more info visit http://www.notube.at/
PLEASE HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO SEND OSCAR TO THE GRAZ CLINIC
BECAUSE OSCAR DESERVES TO EAT AND DRINK AS CHILDREN SHOULD
